publisher's note
Since its inception in 1999, Town Life has been warmly received by thousands of readers throughout the White Bear Area.
We appreciate your support and, with your help, will continue to showcase the best our community has to offer.
Publisher
Town Life is published bimonthly by Town Life, Inc., a corporation owned by Catherine Prokop Carey. The magazine is not affiliated with any other publication.
White Bear: A History
Catherine Carey is the author of “White Bear: A History,” which is scheduled to reach bookstores next month. The coffee-table history book is filled with unique stories and beautifully-restored photographs about the people who shaped our community. The book’s photographs, maps and illustrations have been expertly reproduced in four-color or duotone.
The history book was published by White Bear Township in anticipation of its 2008 Sesquicentennial. White Bear originally encompassed White Bear Township, White Bear Lake, Gem Lake, Vadnais Heights and a portion of North Oaks.
The early years of all of these communities are carefully chronicled in this keepsake history book.
Town Life Magazine
Town Life is proudly displayed in the best homes throughout the community. More than ten thousand families enjoy articles about local people, history, politics, education, recreation, environment, and arts and entertainment in addition to colorful cartoons, community calendar and children’s page.
Local Talent
All of Town Life’s artists, writers and photographers live in our community. Those interested in contributing to the magazine should contact us via email: careycabal@aol.com, regular mail: Town Life, PMB 150, 4707 Hwy. 61, White Bear Lake, MN 55110-3227; or telephone (10 a.m. to 5 p.m., M-F): 651-292-9343. Samples of an artist’s work should be included at the time of inquiry.
Philosophy
Town Life believes in providing readers with professional journalism with a hometown focus. We especially enjoy covering the people who enrich our schools, arts, environment, recreational opportunities and businesses.
The magazine promotes a healthy lifestyle and does not accept advertising from bars, liquor stores, smoke shops or adult-oriented businesses. We reserve the right to reject any advertising that we feel isn’t a good fit for our publication.
Newsletters
White Bear Township, from 1999 to 2007, and Gem Lake, in 2007, have asked Catherine Carey to write, photograph, graphically design and include its newsletters within each issue of Town Life. In return, the magazine has been mailed to every home within the Township and Gem Lake.
Distribution
Beginning in 2008, the magazine will be mailed to 10,000 homes with the highest home valuation in the White Bear Area. Another 650 copies will be sold via subscription and retail stores.
We encourage those who enjoy Town Life, but do not receive the magazine in the mail, to subscribe by sending $29.95 to: Town Life, PMB 150, 4707 Hwy. 61, White Bear Lake, MN 55110-3227.
The magazine is not a free publication distributed to residents within the White Bear Area. It is supported entirely by advertising and subscriptions. Please do your part and send in your subscription today. We can’t do it without you.
Deadlines
Town Life is printed six times a year. Deadlines for advertising and community calendar are one month prior to cover date (see town-life.com).
Community events, charitable fundraisers and nonprofit organizations are given priority in the magazine. Special consideration is also given to those sending a press release and artwork.
Contacting us
Readers are encouraged to submit story ideas, photographs and calendar items of local interest.
Story ideas may be submitted via email (careycabal@aol.com); letter (Town Life, PMB 150, 4707 Hwy. 61, White Bear Lake, MN 55110-3227); or telephone (651) 292-9343 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Calendar items and press releases must be submitted in writing.
Advertising
Town Life’s specialty is promoting local businesses. Since many small business owners do not have their own in-house graphic artist, we are happy to design their ads for free.
Advertisers buy space in the magazine (they do not buy content) so their ads cannot be shared with other publications.
The Next Issue
We’re already planning our next issue. Please visit town-life.com or give us a call for ad rates and sizes.
Thank you, again, for welcoming us into your home. The best is yet to come.
